Outdoor entertaining areas get used, then rained on, then shaded by the pergola or the neighbour's tree for the rest of the week. Over a season or two that produces a distinct look: a dull film across the pavers or tiles, dark shadowing under the table and planter pots, leaf tannin staining where debris has sat, and a greasy patch near the barbecue. Cleaning the area removes that build-up and brings back the colour and texture of the surface, which is usually a bigger visual change than homeowners expect.

Alfresco spaces mix surfaces in a small footprint, so the right pressure and method differ from one surface to the next. Concrete and exposed aggregate are more forgiving, while clay and terracotta pavers, tiles, sandstone flagging and sand-jointed paving can be marked and lose jointing sand if treated too aggressively. Each area is assessed before work starts so the approach suits the materials, their age and their condition. Adjoining rendered walls, painted posts, pergola timbers and the house wall behind the space are considered as well, so the whole area comes back consistently instead of a clean floor under grubby surrounds.

Preparation is worth a quick conversation before the day. We will ask about outdoor furniture, pots, rugs and loose items — what you are happy to move yourself and what you would like handled — and discuss how nearby plants, turf edges and drainage would be protected, along with where the water will go once cleaning starts. Anything that cannot be moved is worked around as the space allows.

There is a practical safety side too. The organic film that builds up in shaded outdoor areas is genuinely slippery once wet, and patios, pool surrounds, thresholds and the step down from the house are exactly where that matters. Removing it restores grip along with appearance. Patio and outdoor area cleaning is often booked with house washing, or with driveway and pathway cleaning, so the front and back of the property are done in one visit.
