Most house washing is done with a soft wash method: low water pressure combined with a suitable cleaning solution, followed by a thorough rinse. That lets the clean do the work instead of high pressure, which can damage paint, render and seals.

Assessment
Checking the house before any water goes on
Each home is looked over first: what the walls are made of, the condition of the paint or render, how heavy the build-up is, where garden beds, windows and outdoor furniture sit, and how the water will drain away. That check decides the cleaning solution, the pressure and the order the house is cleaned in.
If paint is already flaking, render is cracked or seals are failing, you are told before the job starts, because washing can lift material that is already loose.
Process
How a soft wash house clean is done
- Plants, garden beds and nearby surfaces are wet down and protected
- The cleaning solution is applied at low pressure and given time to work on mould and grime
- Walls, eaves and trims are rinsed thoroughly from the top down
- Problem spots are assessed and treated as appropriate
- Surrounds are rinsed off and the finished job is walked over with you
Limitations
What house washing won't do
Washing removes dirt and organic growth sitting on the surface. It does not repair faded, chalky or peeling paint, rust stains, efflorescence or etched marks, and some long-term staining may lighten rather than disappear. If that is likely on your home, it is said up front.

- Is soft washing safe for painted walls and render?
- Soft washing uses low pressure and a suitable cleaning solution, so it is the method used for painted brick, render and weatherboard. Paint or render that is already loose or flaking can still lift, which is why the surface is checked first and you are told about any risk before work starts.
